Lagos Charges Council Administrators On Innovative, People – Centered Strategies

Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State addressing newly elected Council Chairmen and Vice Chairmen across the 57 Local Government and LCDAs at a three-day onboarding programme at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja. With him, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Hon. Bolaji Roberts, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Permanent Secretary of the ministry and other state officials.

The Lagos State Government has urged council heads to focus on measurable performance indicators and adopt innovative, people-centered strategies to meet community needs.

The call was made through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and the Office of Rural Development at a three-day onboarding programme for newly elected Local Government (LG) and Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairmen and Vice Chairmen from August 7 to 9, 2025, at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja.

Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, revealed on his social media handles today, stressing that grassroots governance thrives when leaders combine policy knowledge with practical action.

The event, themed, “Driving Grassroots Development Through Strategic Governance,” was designed to prepare council leaders for office by ensuring a smooth transition, enhancing leadership capacity, and equipping them with governance skills, ethical standards, and strategies for impactful grassroots development.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu addressed participants on the first day, while Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat delivered his remarks on the second day.

Also, present and instrumental to the programme’s success were Hon. Bolaji Roberts, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, and Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Permanent Secretary of the ministry.
